Naming

Cymbopogon flexuosus was already described and the name validly published by Ernst Gottlieb von Steudel based on a prior description by Christian Gottfried Daniel Nees von Esenbeck. It was William Watson, however, who reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics .

Cymbopogon flexuosus is a species in the genus Cymbopogon which contains approximately 56 to 67 species and belongs to the family of the Poaceae (Grass Family).
