Naming

Alsomitra macrocarpa was already described and the name validly published by Carl Ludwig von Blume. It was Max Joseph Roemer, however, who reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics in 1846.

Alsomitra macrocarpa is a species in the genus Alsomitra which contains approximately 1 to 17 species and belongs to the family of the Cucurbitaceae (Cucumber Family).
