Adenophora triphylla is a perennial.

Naming

Adenophora triphylla was already described and the name validly published by Carl Peter Thunberg. It was Alphonse Louis Pierre Pyramus de Candolle, however, who reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics in 1830.

Taxonomy

Adenophora triphylla is the type species of the genus Adenophora which contains approximately 74 to 77 species and belongs to the family of the Campanulaceae (Bellflower Family).

The perennials reach heights of 60 to 100 centimetres.

Adenophora triphylla is deciduous. The leaves are simple and green. They are lanceolate.

Flowers and Fruits

Adenophora triphylla produces panicles of purple campanulate flowers from July to August.

Adenophora triphylla is native to East Siberia, China, Japan and Taiwan.

Cultivation

The perennials prefer a sunny situation on moist soil. The substrate should be sandy loam with a pH between 8 and 10. They tolerate temperatures down to -18°C (USDA zone 7).
