Elaphoglossum moritzianum was already described and the name validly published by Johann Friedrich Klotzsch. It was Thomas Moore, however, who reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics .

Elaphoglossum moritzianum is a species in the genus Elaphoglossum which contains approximately 422 to 875 species and belongs to the family of the Dryopteridaceae (Woodfern Family).
