Acampe rigida is a perennial.

Naming

Acampe rigida was already described and the name validly published by James Edward Smith based on a prior description by Francis Buchanan-Hamilton. It was Peter Francis Hunt, however, who reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics in 1970.

Taxonomy

Acampe rigida is the type species of the genus Acampe which contains 7 species and belongs to the family of the Orchidaceae (Orchid Family).

Acampe rigida produces racemes of nodding, yellow orchid-shaped flowers from July to October.

Acampe rigida is native to East Africa and tropical Asia. It is a protected species according to the Washington Convention.

Cultivation

The perennials prefer sandy, gritty-sandy, loamy, sandy-loamy or loamy clay soil. The perennials tolerate temperatures only above at least 1°C (USDA zone 10).
