Rosa woodsii var. glabrata was already described and the name validly published by Samuel Bonsall Parish. It was not until 1956, however, that John Rufus Cole reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Rosa woodsii var. glabrata is a variety in the genus Rosa (rose) which contains 149 species and belongs to the family of the Rosaceae (Rose Family).

The subshrubs grow to a height of approximately 1,5 meters.

Rosa woodsii var. glabrata is a decidious plant with imparipinnate leaves. The leaves are arranged opposite one another. They are elliptic with serrate margins.

The flowers are five-petaled. The plants bloom from May to July. The flowers are arranged in corymbs.
