The Wester Wild Rose is a variety in the genus Rosa (rose) which contains 149 species and belongs to the family of the Rosaceae (Rose Family).

The shrubs grow to a height of approximately 1,5 meters.

[edit] Leaves

Rosa woodsii var. woodsii is a decidious plant with imparipinnate leaves. The leaves are arranged opposite one another. They are elliptic with serrate margins.

The flowers are five-petaled and pink. The plants bloom from May to July. The flowers are arranged in corymbs.

The orange fruits are hips.

Rosa woodsii var. woodsii is native to Alaska, Canada, the whole of the US, with the exception of the Southwest, the Southeast and Florida, and to North Mexico.

The Wester Wild Rose prefers a sunny to half shady site and can withstand temperatures down to -28,2º C. It grows best in sandy or pebbly, loamy soil that is dry to moderately moist.
