Rosa dumalis was described in 1810 by Johann Matthaeus Bechstein. The name is considered as validly published.

Rosa dumalis is a species in the genus Rosa (rose) which contains 149 species and belongs to the family of the Rosaceae (Rose Family).

The shrubs grow to a height of approximately 2 meters.

Rosa dumalis is a decidious plant with imparipinnate leaves. The leaves are arranged opposite one another. They are ovate with serrulate margins.

The red fruits are hips.

Rosa dumalis is native to the whole of Europe, with the exception of the British Isles, and to Turkey.

Rosa dumalis prefers a sunny to half shady site and can withstand temperatures down to -34,4º C. It grows best in sandy or pebbly, loamy soil that is dry to moderately moist.
