Rosa stellata ssp. mirifica was already described and the name validly published by Edward Lee Greene. It was not until 1914, however, that Walter Hepworth Lewis reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Rosa stellata ssp. mirifica is a subspecies in the genus Rosa (rose) which contains 149 species and belongs to the family of the Rosaceae (Rose Family).
