Rosa persica was already described by André Michaux but it was not until 1791 that the name was validly published by Johann Friedrich Gmelin.

Rosa persica is a species in the genus Rosa (rose) which contains 149 species and belongs to the family of the Rosaceae (Rose Family).

The shrubs grow to a height of approximately 0,8 meters.

[edit] Leaves

Rosa persica is a decidious plant with imparipinnate leaves. The leaves are arranged opposite one another. They are bluish green and elliptic with serrate margins.

The flowers are five-petaled and yellow. The plants bloom from June to August. The flowers are arranged solitary.

The purple fruits are hips. They develop in summer.

Rosa persica is native to Iran, Central Asia, Afghanistan and west Sibiria.

Rosa persica prefers a sunny to half shady site and can withstand temperatures down to -12,2º C. It grows best in sandy or pebbly, loamy soil that is dry to moderately moist.
