Rosa pendulina var. pyrenaica was already described and the name validly published by Antoine Gouan. It was not until 1902, however, that Robert Keller reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Rosa pendulina var. pyrenaica is a variety in the genus Rosa (rose) which contains 149 species and belongs to the family of the Rosaceae (Rose Family).

The shrubs grow to a height of approximately 0,8 meters.

Rosa pendulina var. pyrenaica is a decidious plant with imparipinnate leaves. The leaves are arranged opposite one another. They are dark green and obovate with doubly serraty margins.

The flowers are five-petaled and dark pink. The plants bloom from June to July. The flowers are arranged in corymbs.
The red fruits are hips.

Rosa pendulina var. pyrenaica is native to the Pyrenees.

Rosa pendulina var. pyrenaica prefers a sunny to half shady site and can withstand temperatures down to -28,2º C. It grows best in sandy or pebbly, loamy soil that is dry to moderately moist.
