Rosa forrestiana was described in 1936 by George Albert Boulenger. The name is considered as validly published.

Rosa forrestiana is a species in the genus Rosa (rose) which contains 149 species and belongs to the family of the Rosaceae (Rose Family).

The shrubs grow to a height of approximately 2 meters.

Rosa forrestiana is a decidious plant with imparipinnate leaves. The leaves are arranged opposite one another. They are elliptic with doubly serraty margins.

The flowers are five-petaled and dark red. The plants bloom in May. The flowers are arranged in corymbs.

The red fruits are hips. They develop in summer.

Rosa forrestiana prefers a sunny to half shady site and can withstand temperatures down to -12,2º C. It grows best in sandy or pebbly, loamy soil that is dry to moderately moist.
