Rosa foliolosa was already described by Thomas Nuttall but it was not until 1840 that the name was validly published by John Torrey and Asa Gray.

The White Prairie Rose is a species in the genus Rosa (rose) which contains 149 species and belongs to the family of the Rosaceae (Rose Family).

The shrubs grow to a height of approximately 0,9 meters.

Rosa foliolosa is a decidious plant with imparipinnate leaves. The leaves are arranged opposite one another. They are mid green and lanceolate with serrate margins.

The scented flowers are five-petaled and pink. The plants bloom from July to August. They are arranged in corymbs.
The fruits are hips.

Rosa foliolosa is native to Arkansas and the southern Prairie States of the US.

The White Prairie Rose prefers a sunny to half shady site and can withstand temperatures down to -23,3º C. It grows best in sandy or pebbly, loamy soil that is dry to moderately moist.
