Rosa chinensis was described in 1768 by Nicolaus Joseph von Jacquin. The name is considered as validly published.

The China Rose is a species in the genus Rosa (rose) which contains 149 species and belongs to the family of the Rosaceae (Rose Family).

The shrubs grow to a height of approximately 2 meters.

Rosa chinensis is a decidious plant with imparipinnate leaves. The leaves are arranged opposite one another. They are dark green and ovate with serrate margins.

The flowers are five-petaled and red. The plants bloom from April to September. The flowers are arranged in corymbs.

The red fruits are hips. They develop in summer.

Rosa chinensis is native to China.

The China Rose prefers a sunny to half shady site and can withstand temperatures down to -23,3º C. It grows best in sandy or pebbly, loamy soil that is dry to moderately moist.
