Rosa arkansana var. arkansana was described by Thomas Conrad Porter. The name is considered as validly published.

The Prairie Rose is a variety in the genus Rosa (rose) which contains 149 species and belongs to the family of the Rosaceae (Rose Family).

The subshrubs grow to a height of approximately 0,6 meters.

Rosa arkansana var. arkansana has imparipinnate leaves. The leaves are arranged opposite one another. They are ovate with serrate margins.

The flowers are five-petaled and pink. The plants bloom from May to August. The flowers are arranged in corymbs.
The red fruits are hips. They develop in autumn.

Rosa arkansana var. arkansana is native to Canada, the northern Prairie States of the US, the central Northeast of the US, the Northeast of the US, New Mexiko and the southern Prairie States of the US.

The Prairie Rose prefers a sunny to half shady site. It grows best in sandy or pebbly, loamy soil that is dry to moderately moist.
