Polyscias filicifolia, commonly known as fern-leaf aralia, is a shrub.

Naming

Polyscias filicifolia was already described and the name validly published by Eugène Pierre Nicolas Fournier based on a prior description by Charles Moore. It was Liberty Hyde Bailey, however, who reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics .

Taxonomy

Polyscias filicifolia is a species in the genus Polyscias which contains approximately 118 to 131 species and belongs to the family of the Araliaceae (Ginseng Family).

The shrubs reach heights of 2 to 2,5 metres.

Polyscias filicifolia is evergreen. The dark-green, tripinnate leaves are alternate. The elliptic leaflets are denticulate and petiolate.

Cultivation

The shrubs prefer a sunny to half-shady situation on fresh to moist soil. The substrate should be sandy loam. They tolerate temperatures only above at least 1°C (USDA zone 10).
