Hosta ventricosa (= Funkia ovata, Hosta caerulea, Hosta latifolia), commonly calles blue plantain-lily is an ornamental perennial mainly used because of its foliage. The species was already described and the name validly published by Richard Anthony Salisbury. It was not until 1812, however, that William Thomas Stearn reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.
