Viola cornuta (horned violet) is a perennial. There are a lot of different hybrid-cultivars available since it hybridizes easily with other violets like Viola wittrockiana and Viola tricolor. The species was described by Carl von Linné in the second editions of his Species plantarum in 1763. The common name comes from latin <cornu = horn>. The horned violet belongs to the genus Viola (violet) which comprises around 400 species and belongs to the family of the Violaceae (violet family). more...
