Designing your user page

Some people write a short cv, others list articles they have worked on or use the page as a sort of toolbox for templates (please never more than 20 templates on one page - the server doesn't like this). Hortipedia is not a webspace or homepage provider so user pages should always be in service of the development of Hortipedia.

Talk page

Every user page has a corresponding talk page that can be used to communicate with other hortipedians. These pages can be read by anyone so for more private communication use the e-mail function. You will be notified about changes on your talk page by the following message:

You have new messages (last change).

If a talk page gets too big (more than 300kB) you can use the "move" button and move it to something like [[User talk:Name/archive 2004]] and create a link to that archive page on your now cleaned talk page.

Sub pages

If you need more working space than just the one user page (e.g. to prepare articles or to have your very own sandbox you can create sub pages with e.g. [[User:Name/Sandbox]]. If you are preparing an article on your user page it would be good to indicate this. Since user pages are being indexed by search enginges you never know who might stumble across your still unfinished article. For the deletion of a sub page refer to Hortipedia:Speedy deletion.

Customs and practice

It is common practice that each user is in charge of their user page although some users explicitly invite others to edit their pages. Some might take the liberty of correcting a corrupt link so if you want to do this yourself you should indicate it on your page.

There are not many regulations as to the design of user pages but the ones in effect should be observed. Hortipedia will not tolerate offensive, abusive or disresputable content or any contents that may be liable to prosecution. Also, please don't overdo it on the personal information if it doesn't relate to your work on Hortipedia and don't publish advertisements or texts that have nothing to do with Hortipedia. There's a lot of free web space out there so if you want to build a homepage please find a proper provider for that.
