Ephedra nevadensis is a species in the genus Ephedra (jointfir, a common name also used for Gnetum ) which contains 40 species and belongs to the family of the Ephedraceae (Ephedra Family).

The shrubs grow to a height of approximately 1,5 meters.They grow at a moderate rate and have a short lifespan.

Ephedra nevadensis is an evergreen plant with simple leaves. The leaves are arranged alternately along the stems. They are mid green and acicular with entire margins.

Ephedra nevadensis is native to Oregon, California, Nevada, Utah and Arizona.

Ephedra nevadensis prefers a sunny site and can withstand temperatures down to -12,2º C. It grows best in sandy-gritty soil that is dry. The plants do not tolerate droughts. They will not grow in anaerobic soils and are highly tolerant of limy conditions.
