Draba pedicellata was already described and the name validly published by Reed Clark Rollins and Robert A. Price. It was not until 2003, however, that Michael D. Windham reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Draba pedicellata is a species in the genus Draba (whitlow grass) which contains 300 species and belongs to the family of the Brassicaceae (Mustard Family).
