Draba lasiocarpa was already described by Anton Rochel but it was not until 1819 that the name was validly published by Friedrich August Marschall von Bieberstein.

Draba lasiocarpa is a species in the genus Draba (whitlow grass) which contains 300 species and belongs to the family of the Brassicaceae (Mustard Family).

The perennials grow to a height of approximately 0,2 meters.

Draba lasiocarpa is an evergreen plant with simple leaves. The leaves are arranged in rosettes. They are lanceolate with entire margins.

The flowers are cross-shaped and yellow. The plants bloom from March to May. The flowers are arranged in racemes.

Draba lasiocarpa is native to the Carpathian Mountains and the Balkan Mountains in Austria, the Balkan Peninsual and Romania respectively.

Draba lasiocarpa prefers a sunny site and can withstand temperatures down to -28,2º C. It grows best in sandy-gritty soil that is dry.
