Draba kamtschatica was already described and the name validly published by Carl Friedrich von Ledebour. It was not until 1918, however, that Nicola? Adolfowitsch Busch reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Draba kamtschatica is a species in the genus Draba (whitlow grass) which contains 300 species and belongs to the family of the Brassicaceae (Mustard Family).
