Draba hyperborea was already described and the name validly published by Carl Linnaeus. It was not until 1815, however, that Nicaise Auguste Desvaux reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Draba hyperborea is a species in the genus Draba (whitlow grass) which contains 300 species and belongs to the family of the Brassicaceae (Mustard Family).
