Draba cuneifolia var. sonorae was already described and the name validly published by Edward Lee Greene. It was not until 1903, however, that Samuel Bonsall Parish reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Draba cuneifolia var. sonorae is a variety in the genus Draba (whitlow grass) which contains 300 species and belongs to the family of the Brassicaceae (Mustard Family).
