Draba cuneifolia var. cuneifolia was already described by Thomas Nuttall but it was not until some time later that the name was validly published by John Torrey and Asa Gray.

Draba cuneifolia var. cuneifolia is a variety in the genus Draba (whitlow grass) which contains 300 species and belongs to the family of the Brassicaceae (Mustard Family).
