Draba burkei was already described and the name validly published by Charles Leo Hitchcock. It was not until 2004, however, that Michael D. Windham and Mark Beilstein reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Draba burkei is a species in the genus Draba (whitlow grass) which contains 300 species and belongs to the family of the Brassicaceae (Mustard Family).

The perennials grow to a height of approximately 0,06 meters and develop as mats.

Draba burkei is an evergreen plant with simple leaves. The leaves are arranged in rosettes. They are oblanceolate with entire margins.
