Draba bruniifolia ssp. olympica was already described and the name validly published by Augustin Pyramus de Candolle, based on a prior description by James Sibree. It was not until some time later, however, that Mark James Elgar Coode and James Cullen reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Draba bruniifolia ssp. olympica is a subspecies in the genus Draba (whitlow grass) which contains 300 species and belongs to the family of the Brassicaceae (Mustard Family).
