Draba breweri var. cana was already described and the name validly published by Per Axel Rydberg. It was not until 1993, however, that Reed Clark Rollins reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Draba breweri var. cana is a variety in the genus Draba (whitlow grass) which contains 300 species and belongs to the family of the Brassicaceae (Mustard Family).
