Draba brachycarpa was already described by Thomas Nuttall but it was not until 1838 that the name was validly published by John Torrey and Asa Gray.

Draba brachycarpa is a species in the genus Draba (whitlow grass) which contains 300 species and belongs to the family of the Brassicaceae (Mustard Family).

The plants grow to a height of approximately 0,2 meters.

Draba brachycarpa is a decidious plant with simple leaves. The leaves are arranged in rosettes. They are linear with entire margins.

The flowers are cross-shaped and white. The plants bloom from February to May. The flowers are arranged in racemes.

Draba brachycarpa is native to Oregon, Arizona, the southern Prairie States of the US, Indiana, the central Northeast of the US, Kentucky, Virginia, the Southeast of the US and Florida.
