Draba barbata var. treleasii was already described and the name validly published by Otto Eugen Schulz. It was not until 1927, however, that Charles Leo Hitchcock reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Draba barbata var. treleasii is a variety in the genus Draba (whitlow grass) which contains 300 species and belongs to the family of the Brassicaceae (Mustard Family).
