Dimocarpus longan was described by João de Loureiro in 1790. The name is considered as validly published.

Taxonomy

Dimocarpus longan is a species in the genus Dimocarpus which contains approximately 11 to 12 species and belongs to the family of the Sapindaceae (Soapberry Family).
