Digitalis fontanesii was described in 1840 by Ernst Gottlieb von Steudel. The name is considered as validly published.

Digitalis fontanesii is a species in the genus Digitalis (foxglove) which contains 20 species and belongs to the family of the Scrophulariaceae (Figwort Family).

The perennials grow to a height of approximately 1 meter.

Digitalis fontanesii has simple leaves. The leaves are arranged opposite one another. They are mid green and lanceolate.

The flowers are tubular and pale yellow. The plants bloom from June to July. The flowers are arranged in racemes.

The fruits are septicidal capsules.
