Naming

Dendrocalamus asper was already described and the name validly published by Josef August Schultes. It was Cornelis Andries Backer, however, who reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics .

Dendrocalamus asper is a species in the genus Dendrocalamus which contains approximately 51 to 57 species and belongs to the family of the Poaceae (Grass Family).
