Naming

Cryptanthus zonatus was already described and the name validly published by Roberto de Visiani. It was Johann Georg Beer, however, who reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics in 1856.

Cryptanthus zonatus is a species in the genus Cryptanthus which contains approximately 61 to 69 species and belongs to the family of the Bromeliaceae (Bromeliad Family).
