Conophytum bilobum ssp. gracilistylum was already described and the name validly published by Harriet Margaret Louisa Bolus. It was not until 1933, however, that Steven A. Hammer reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Conophytum bilobum ssp. gracilistylum is a subspecies in the genus Conophytum which contains 90 species and belongs to the family of the Aizoaceae (Fig-marigold Family).
