Conophytum fibuliforme was already described and the name validly published by Adrian Hardy Haworth. It was not until 1922, however, that Nicholas Edward Brown reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Conophytum fibuliforme is a species in the genus Conophytum which contains 90 species and belongs to the family of the Aizoaceae (Fig-marigold Family).
