Conophytum calculus was already described and the name validly published by Alwin Berger. It was not until 1922, however, that Nicholas Edward Brown reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Conophytum calculus is a species in the genus Conophytum which contains 90 species and belongs to the family of the Aizoaceae (Fig-marigold Family).

The perennials grow to a height of approximately 0,05 meters.

Conophytum calculus is an evergreen plant with simple leaves. The leaves are arranged alternately along the stems. They are orbicular with entire margins.

Conophytum calculus is native to South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland.
