Conicosia pugioniformis was already described and the name validly published by Carl Linnaeus. It was not until 1926, however, that Nicholas Edward Brown reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Conicosia pugioniformis is a species in the genus Conicosia (narrow-leaved iceplant) which contains 2 species and belongs to the family of the Aizoaceae (Fig-marigold Family).
