Cleistocactus parviflorus was already described and the name validly published by Karl Moritz Schumann. It was not until 1904, however, that Robert Roland-Gosselin reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Cleistocactus parviflorus is a species in the genus Cleistocactus which contains 30 species and belongs to the family of the Cactaceae (Cactus Family).

Cleistocactus parviflorus prefers a sunny site and can withstand temperatures down to -6,6º C. It grows best in sand and sandy-gritty soil that is dry.
