Cyphostemma currori was already described and the name validly published by Joseph Dalton Hooker. It was not until 1967, however, that Bernard M. Descoings reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Cyphostemma currori is a species in the genus Cyphostemma which contains 150 species and belongs to the family of the Vitaceae (Grape Family).
