Cyphostemma bainesii was already described and the name validly published by Joseph Dalton Hooker. It was not until 1960, however, that Bernard M. Descoings reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Cyphostemma bainesii is a species in the genus Cyphostemma which contains 150 species and belongs to the family of the Vitaceae (Grape Family).

The perennials grow to a height of approximately 0,6 meters.

[edit] Leaves

Cyphostemma bainesii is a decidious plant with tripinnate leaves. The leaves are arranged opposite one another. They are lanceolate.

The flowers are cup-shaped and pale yellow. The plants bloom from June to August. The flowers are arranged in cymes.

The red fruits are berries.

Cyphostemma bainesii is native to Namibia.

Cyphostemma bainesii prefers a sunny site and can withstand temperatures down to -6,6º C. It grows best in soils that are dry.
