Cheiridopsis namaquensis was already described and the name validly published by Otto Wilhelm Sonder. It was not until 2001, however, that Heidrun Elsbeth Klara Osterwald Hartmann reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Cheiridopsis namaquensis is a species in the genus Cheiridopsis which contains 31 species and belongs to the family of the Aizoaceae (Fig-marigold Family).
