Carpobrotus acinaciformis was already described and the name validly published by Carl Linnaeus. It was not until 1927, however, that Harriet Margaret Louisa Bolus reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Carpobrotus acinaciformis is a species in the genus Carpobrotus which contains 13 species and belongs to the family of the Aizoaceae (Fig-marigold Family).
