Orbea decaisneana was already described and the name validly published by Charles Lemaire. It was not until 2001, however, that Peter Vincent Bruyns reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Orbea decaisneana is a species in the genus Orbea which contains 54 species and belongs to the family of the Apocynaceae (Dogbane Family).
