Calibanus hookeri was already described and the name validly published by Charles Lemaire. It was not until 1911, however, that William Trelease reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Calibanus hookeri is a species in the genus Calibanus which belongs to the family of the Nolinaceae (Beargrass Family).
