Bougainvillea glabra was described in 1849 by Jacques Denys Choisy. The name is considered as validly published.

The Paper Flower is a species in the genus Bougainvillea which contains 18 species and belongs to the family of the Nyctaginaceae (Four o'clock Family).

The climbers grow to a height of approximately 8 meters.

Bougainvillea glabra is an evergreen plant with simple leaves. The leaves are arranged opposite one another. They are dark green and elliptic with entire margins.
