Bomarea patacoensis was described in 1837 by William Herbert. The name is considered as validly published.

Bomarea patacoensis is a species in the genus Bomarea which contains 120 species and belongs to the family of the Alstroemeriaceae (Peruvian-lily Family).

The climbers grow to a height of approximately 5 meters.

Bomarea patacoensis is a decidious plant with simple leaves. The leaves are arranged opposite one another. They are mid green and lanceolate with entire margins.

The flowers are bell-shaped and dark red. The plants bloom from June to August. The flowers are arranged in racemes.
