Bidens reptans var. reptans was already described and the name validly published by Carl Linnaeus. It was not until some time later, however, that George Don reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Bidens reptans var. reptans is a variety in the genus Bidens (beggarticks) which contains 280 species and belongs to the family of the Asteraceae (Aster Family).
