Bidens cosmoides was already described and the name validly published by Asa Gray. It was not until 1920, however, that Earl Edward Sherff reclassified it into todays valid botanical systematics.

Bidens cosmoides is a species in the genus Bidens (beggarticks) which contains 280 species and belongs to the family of the Asteraceae (Aster Family).

The climbers grow to a height of approximately 2,5 meters.
